Well 1 week in… busy, relaxed, happy!
Stuff done… lunch out with Gwen, afternoon mooching Ambleside & Keswick, grass cut & tidied behind shed, hedge trimmed, shredding, composting, new latch on front gate, 2 x rusting manhole covers replaced… bit of baking… bit of sewing – though nothing creative… oh yes and been to gym x 2… so much for the retirement cards that show folk sitting on their behinds! Weather has been brilliant all week, though very showery today.

Ah well – I haven’t developed the habit for this yet… time has marched on… tomorrow is the last day of working as a midwife. My desk is very nearly cleared… filing cabinet is empty, professional books are ALL re-homed, emails whittled down to the last few, lots of ‘farewells’ said & received. I am ready for the break… and something new. C&G Creative Embroidery starts in 3 weeks… the garden needs 3 weeks TLC and I intend to clean! AND get back to the gym & ex class which has slipped in the last 2 months.

is … the road FROM work

This evening I am so thankful that I made that BIG decision.  I have worked (yes OK at home – but ‘head down’ and focussed) a full day… got a breath of fresh air (gorgeous evening and so gave the grass a quick trim before it rains again tomorrow… ) and I’ve just spent another 2 hours emailing… without being able to do everything that could be done…  Anxiety increasing… ridiculous!  STOP now!

There are lots of things that I feel sad to be leaving… but THIS is why I am… the job is ALWAYS in my head and it is too much!

New sewing machine…

I bought this on New Year’s Eve… it cemented the decision to retire. Picture will follow…

I’m holding myself back from playing with it… lest it take over and distract me from work and (for the next few weeks) marking!  It did have an enjoyable excursion a month ago making Angie’s Birthday Bunting, but the cover is back on now!  I have a job to do with it for work… to make a cot cover … and I’m looking forward to that!

Picking up the lost thread then…

Well the last post worked so…

As I was saying (in the disappeared post) … at the weekend I got round to booking the day workshop ‘Contemporary Rag Rugging’ at Hestascene…

which I’ve been dithering about since the NewYear.  Not sure why…

It’s a couple of years since I did a 2 day ‘hooky rug’ course with Heather Ritchie at Higham Hall… which was such a good start.  After that I bought various bits of equipment!! I have a box full of possible materials… just waiting for inspiration and time!

So – I shall come back to this with pics of the results…

Birdies in the garden…

IMG_0205Over the last week I’ve had some less common visitors… female siskin, reed warbler – both of which I’ve seen occasionally before.  The last few days and this morning is no exception… a bird I’d never seen before… a blackcap. He (yes he) has become a frequent attender at the kitchen bird table, back again this morning eating the RSPB buggy suet balls and I glimpsed him yesterday on the grass under the nut feeder in the hawthorn.  When I get camera organised, I’ll add the (not so good) pic I took of him.  Seeing him as I brewed my tea reminded me that I needed a 4th category for the blog… and I managed to do the bit of HTML-ing (!?) that ‘my boy’ showed me last night when we set this up!  Old dog – new trick!!
